World's First Android 4.0 Launched from China Market : Ice Cream Sandwich Tablet

There is no shortage of cheap Android tablets from Chinese manufacturers that can be found for under $200 online, most of which are running an older version of Android and don’t have Google’s blessing (meaning no Google services and Market). MIPS Technologies and Ingenic Semiconductor announced today availability of the world’s first Ice Cream Sandwich, Android 4.0-powered tablet, and it just so happens to a $99 budget-friendly tab with decent specs.

The tablet will pack in a 1GHz MIPS-based ‘XBurst” CPU, 7-inch capacitive touchscreen, microSD, HDMI 1.3, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, USB 2.0, 2-megapixel main cam, front-facing cam, and bluetooth. Ainovo, the company offering up the tablet to the Chinese market, is promising 30 hours standby and 8 hours video playback for battery.

The Novo7 will become available to the US market (likely with different branding) through other companies including OMG Electronics Ltd. and Leader International Inc. at a later date. There will also be 8 and 9-inch variants released in the future, mostly likely depending on the success of the 7-inch model. You might have to pay a little more than the US $99 price tag to get it shipped from a Chinese supplier before it lands stateside, but it will probably be your first chance to get your hands on an ICS tablet if you do.

Google Graph Calculator : Use Google as a Graphics Calculator

Having learned a lot about Google's power with Google dorks, this time we came up with something cool which Google again offers and can be damn useful, specially to those who work on graphs etc a a lot. This is one of the latest Google's feature.

Yeah, u guessed it right. Its just about a simple query which you can hit to get a graphical output and that too mathematically.

So here we go.

The first demo case i am writing for Engineers [ as i studied with them and then eventually got my stream apart from those]. Lets write a simple Sin(x) function.

Simple Functions

x/2, (x/3)^2

Trignometric Functions

sin(x)+1/2 sin(2x)+2/3 sin(3x)

Sin(x), Cos(x), Tan(x)

Exponential Function

(exp(x)-exp(-x))/2

There are many other operations which can give you some appropriate output as per your requirement.

And the best part lies in the fact that "You can zoom in and out and pan across the plane to explore the function in more detail. You can also draw multiple functions by separating them with commas, "This feature covers an extensive range of single variable functions including trigonometric, exponential, logarithmic and their compositions, and is available in modern browsers".

You can also use Google Chart API Calculator developed by Jon Winstanley. Here is the link : http://www.jonwinstanley.com/charts/

Detect nudity in Images using Javascript Code and HTML Canvas

Parents want to avoid their children getting exposed to nude images and to some extent it can be filtered with web proxies. But here is a very good demonstration of nudity detection script which works using javascript and HTML canvas actually scans for nudity in the images and hides it. Thanks to Patrick Wied for making this script. This open source nudity detection technique will help in a greater way to avoid kids getting exposed to explicit thing in the future.

Free Online Service Of Image ext Detection By OCR

Have a PDF document or an image that you would like to convert to text? Now will everything being digital, you might end up getting a document from someone that is in TIFF or PDF format, but that you would have preferred in Word or Text format so you can edit it.

Of course, you could always purchase OCR software, but here at OTT, we always try to find ways to do everything for free! That’s where a free online OCR service comes in handy.

Free OCR is a nitfy little web service  that everyone should bookmark because you never know when you’ll need it.
free online ocr
Basically, you upload a PDF or image file (JPG, TIFF, BMP) from your computer and Free OCR will process the document/image within a few seconds and spit it back out in plain text format.

The max file size is currently 2 MB. You don’t have to do any pre-processing to your images except for making sure it is not skewed right or left. If it is, go ahead and deskew it before uploading.

free ocr
Also, if there is more than one column in your image, it will convert it all to one column. However, they are creating a layout engine that will recognize more complex documents in the future.

The recommended DPI for the images is 150, but if you have a file that is a lower DPI, go ahead and try it anyway to see if it works.

The only major limitation right now is that it can convert only the first page of a PDF document and that’s it! So if you have more than one page, you’ll only get the first page. In the future, you will be able to process up to 10 pages.

The cool feature, though, is that it also support six languages including German, French, Italian, Dutch and Spanish.

Overall, the OCR results were very good on cleanly printed PDF and image files. Obviously, if I tried a lower resolution scanned document, it didn’t catch everything, but still the results were impressive for a free online service!
Give it a shot and see how it works for you. Overall, it’s a really useful tool if you ever need a free online OCR service for something simple.

From The Laptop Of A Cyber Terrorists

From The Laptops Of Cyber Terrorists
Arik Hesseldahl, 04.29.05, 10:00 AM ET

NEW YORK - If you can't catch terrorists, then the next best thing seems to be snatching their laptop computers. And as luck would have it, they're just as sloppy about protecting their sensitive personal information as the rest of us.

At least that appears to have been the case when U.S. military forces came surprisingly close to catching the terrorist mastermind of al Qaeda in Iraq, the Jordanian-born Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

On Feb. 20, the Pentagon says al-Zarqawi was in a truck heading from Fallujah to a meeting in Ramadi when U.S. forces pulled over one of the vehicles in his convoy. Another truck in the group turned around and sped away. When they finally caught up to that truck, Al-Zarqawi was gone, but he had left his laptop in the car. And what they found on it says some hopeful things about our chances of ultimately rooting out and capturing the bad guys.

It turns out that terrorists are just as lazy about protecting their data as your average PC owner. There were, according to news reports, recent digital pictures, apparently of al-Zarqawi, tucked away in the "My Pictures" folder common to PCs running Microsoft's (nasdaq: MSFT - news - people ) Windows.

Reports have varied about the information found on the computer. Reportedly, among the nuggets are names and addresses of friendly contacts, information about al-Zarqawi's medical condition and, possibly, financial information. All of this is valuable, and reduces the number of rocks under which the lowlife can safely hide.

It's not the first time a computer used by a terrorist leader has wound up in official U.S. hands. In 2003, when Pakistani soldiers captured Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, they also found his laptop, which according to some reports contained a rather tantalizing array of information. That information included at least a dozen locations along the border of Pakistan and Afghanistan, which had been used by the terrorist kingpin Osama bin-Laden himself.

Of course the intelligence analysts will have to consider the possibility that the laptop was intentionally left by who they think was al-Zarqawi to throw them off his scent. But if the machine proves to be one that belonged to an individual at or near the top of the U.S. list of most-wanted terrorists, then it should give us some hope about eventually bagging some of the biggest fish in the war on terror as the months and years unfold.

Bruce Hoffman, director of the Washington office of Rand and a terrorism expert, says terrorists have some of the same problems the rest of us do in trying to keep prying eyes from their data. "They tend not to have heavily encrypted computers, they're not using strong passwords. And just like business travelers, they lose their laptops."

Certainly there are ways to protect data. Several companies build software that encrypts sensitive files or that can create secure sections of a hard drive. I've played with scores of these programs over the years, but I generally use PGP Desktop, which among other operations allows you to encrypt your e-mail communication--provided that whomever you're sending the message to also uses the program--and locks sensitive files.

But for every step you take to ensure data security, there's an extra step required to get the information. This can become tiresome if you're impatient or need to use the information freely. It's just like having to lock and unlock a restroom door several times a day. It doesn't take a leap of imagination to see how a terrorist constantly on the move might find the need to constantly encrypt and de-crypt his files a pain in the neck.

The smart terrorists, Hoffman says, learn from these captures and adjust their habits accordingly. In the pre-Sept. 11, 2001, days, Osama bin-Laden was a regular user of a satellite phone, until he learned along with the rest of the world that the National Security Agency had been listening to his conversations and that officials there occasionally played a recording of him talking to his mother.

"The ones that survive do so through natural selection," Hoffman says. "They keep getting smarter, because they pay attention to the techniques used to capture the others."

Still, I find it strangely encouraging to think that the one bit of information that might one day lead us to the prize--Osama bin-Laden fitted for his own set of leg shackles--is just sitting somewhere on some lazy terrorist's laptop.

Hyperwebenable.com Is Scam : Dont Use It (A Review)

Is HyperWebEnable a scam? Well, here’s some very interesting info that you may want to read, especially if you are currently busting your ass to drive traffic to your *free* hyperwebenable site.

Did you know that in a matter of time you will be asked to pay a non-disclosed fee? The “renewal fee” will be sent to you upon (nondisclosed) expiration date. After you receive your bill you will have ONE DAY to pay it. If you decide NOT to pay it your ENTIRE SITE, EMAIL ACCOUNTS, ETC will be FROZEN! If you do not pay within 25 days your entire site and accounts ARE DELETED!

So HyperWebEnable is going to put your back against a wall and basically force you to pay to keep your hard work. Don’t believe me? Read paragraph #15 in the privacy policy. Paragraph 15 is the one that for some reason is in 2point font and in a very light shade of gray, making it hard to see, unlike the rest of the privacy policy. (or you can read it at the end of this article)

In addition, by creating your HyperWebEnable site you have agrees to a lot of stuff:

  • 1. You won’t say anything bad about them…because
  • 2. They have the right to sue you for any losses they suffer due to what you say or any other reason
  • 3. You have agreed not to hold them accountable for ANYTHING
  • 4. You can not take any legal action against them, period. Not even when they freeze your site and demand payment – even if this causes you to lose thousands of dollars – you’re S.O.L kid.
  • 5. YOU are responsible for YOUR REFERRALS CONTENT. WTF?!?!?! That’s all I can say about that. They have links to the privacy policy about it but ironically those links don’t work.

It seems that everybody on the net is asking WHY would a site GIVE you a free domain and website? I think the answer is obvious, my friends. You WILL pay for it. They WILL profit. You WILL LOSE.

Please Spread it ...

CEH Certification Now Approved By DOD : Review

DoD 8570 and CEH
US DOD Directive 8570 & Certified Ethical Hacker

The United States of America Department of Defense issued Directive 8570 in 2004 to mandate baseline certifications for all Information AssuranceIA” positions.  In February of 2010, this directive was enhanced to include the Certified Ethical Hacker across the Computer NetworkDefense Categories “CND”.

What is 8570?

As stated by DIAP: DOD Directive 8570.01M Change 2 provides the basis for an enterprise-wide solution to train, certify, and manage the DoDInformation Assurance (IA) workforce.

How is the Directive Structured?

8570 classifies personnel in the following Main Categories:
  • Technician
  • Manager
  • Computer Network Defender Service Provider
  • System Architect and Engine
Furthermore, categories are subdivided into individual job roles relating to specific functional requirements. The certified ethical hacker covers 4 out of 5 positions in the Computer Network Defense Category.
CEH is a part of:
  • CND Analyst
  • CND Infrastructure Support
  • CND Incident Responder
  • CND Auditor

Full 8570 Certification Chart:

Table AP3.T1. DoD Approved Baseline Certification

Who is affected by DOD Directive 8570?

All individuals with privileged access to DOD Systems, military personnel, civilian contractors, and foreign employees alike.

Why is CEH the best certification for CND-SP 8570?

The Certified Ethical Hacker Program was designed and developed at a time when the Global IT Industry were led to believe that IT Security consisted of purchasing expensive vendor equipment.
EC-Council literally changed the industry’s vernacular when they developed the Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) course. The innovative CEH course was the first of its kind; bringing “hacking” technologies “Into the light of day.”
Flash forward 5 years and over 30,000 certified members later, EC-Council is currently the industries only accepted standard for the Certified Ethical Hacker.

Google Offers Three New Paid Search Products

For all the PPC advertising lovers, Google has some good news for you.
At the recent SMX West conference, Google’s Nick Fox shared an insight into several of Google’s new PPC offerings. These include sitelinks, product extensions and comparison ads.
Search Engine Land has a great post explaining each of the products, so here is quick rundown:
Sitelinks
Allows advertisers to display up to four text links underneath an AdWords ad.
googlepaidsearch1
Google claims they have seen a 30-40% increase in CTR from the sitelinks.
Product Extensions
Allows advertisers to display specific products and product images under the AdWords ad.
googlepaidsearch2
Google chooses which products are displayed and are chosen from the advertisers Google Merchant Center accounts.
Comparison Ads
Allow consumers to compare multiple relevant offers such as mortgage rates from different lenders.
googlepaidsearch3
If a searcher finds a relevant offer, they can call the lender or request a quote. If requesting a quote, then Google sends the company a unique code to contact the user. Advertisers only pay if the users call the phone number in the ad or request a quote.
I wonder how long it will take for Bing and Yahoo! to release something similar.
