- Download the SMAC tool from www.klcconsulting.net/smac/.
- Unzip the program into its default directory.
- Start the program from the Windows Start, Programs menu.
- Open a DOS prompt and type ipconfig /all. Record your MAC address here: ___________
- Now use the SMAC program to change your MAC address. If you would like to change your MAC to a specific value, you could sniff it from the network or you could the table at http://standards.ieee.org/regauth/oui/index.shtml to research specific Organizational Unique Identifiers (OUIs) at the IEEE website.
- Once you have determined what to use for a new MAC address, enter it into the SMAC program; then save the value and exit.
- Finally reboot the system and perform the ipconfog /all command from the DOS prompt. Record the MAC address here and compare to the results in step 4. _________
You should see that the two MAC addresses are different. This is a value that can be used to demonstrate the trivial process of MAC spoofing and can be used to bypass controls that lock down networks to systems that have an approved MAC address.

What Is MD5 Hash And How To Use MD5 Hash
Recently I made some significant changes and updates to my website and as obvious I generated a complete backup of the site on my server. I downloaded this backup onto my PC and deleted the original one on the server. But after a few days something went wrong and I wanted to restore the backup that I downloaded. When I tried to restore the backup I was shocked! The backup file that I used to restore was corrupted. That means, the backup file that I downloaded onto my PC wasn’t exactly the one that was on my server. The reason is that there occured some data loss during the download process. Yes, this data loss can happen often when a file is downloaded from the Internet. The file can be corrupted due to any of the following reasons.
- Data loss during the download process, due to instability in the Internet connection/server
- The file can be tampered due to virus infections or
- Due to Hacker attacks
A MD5 hash is nothing but a 32 digit hexadicimal number which can be something as follows

This hash is unique for every file irrespective of it’s size and type. That means two .exe files with the same size will not have the same MD5 hash even though they are of same type and size. So MD5 hash can be used to uniquely identify a file.
How to use MD5 Hash to check the Integrity of Files?
Suppose you have a file called backup.tar on your server. Before you download, you need to generate MD5 hash for this file on your server. To do so use the following command.For UNIX:
md5sum backup.tar
When you hit ENTER you’ll see something as follows

This is the MD5 hash for the file backup.tar. After you download this file onto your PC, you can cross check it’s integrity by again re-generating MD5 hash for the downloaded file. How To Create Your Own Win XP Bootable Live CD
To create a Windows XP Live CD we will require
1. Bart PEbuilder
2. A CD burner like Nero
3. A bootable Windows XP CD and
4. Some pebuilder plugins to customize the CD.
Step 1: Download PeBuilder from here and install it. Make sure you have enough free space on the drive where you install the program. After you have finished adding all programs it will create an ISO to be burned into a disk. The size of the ISO will depend upon how many programs you add to your live CD. I would recommend atleast 700MB of free space.
Step 2: You may want to set a wallpaper that will appear on the desktop when you boot the CD. For this open the folder where you have installed PEbuilder and replace the file bartpe.bmp with the wallpaper of your choice.
Step 3: Download XPE plugin from here (direct download link). It's the GUI shell of the XP Live CD that will create the XP start button and taskbar. You are free to download as many plugin (applications) you want. Currently there are more than 500 applications to choose from. Both freewares and commercial applications are available. Antivirus programs like Kaspersky, NOD32, Avast; burning program Nero; media players like VLC; OpenOffice, Foxit PDF reader, Acrobat Reader etc are available.

Step 4: After you have finished downloading all your favourite programs, open PEbuider and specify the source path to the Windows XP installation bootable CD. You can copy the CD to your hard disk and point the source to the copied file.

Step 5: Click Plugins and add all the plugins you have downloaded. Since we have added XPE, disable nu2shell and the startup group from the list of plugins.
Step 6: Specify the ISO image file and click Build. The program will integrate the plugins and create an ISO image.
Step7: Burn the image into a disk using any burning software and your live CD is ready.

Hardware Keylogger
There are various kinds of keylogging methods around, but currently, the most popular ones in the consumer market are the software-based and hardware-based keyloggers. The main difference between the two is that hardware keyloggers have their own microcontrollers or mini-computers at work and are independent from the computer’s processor, memory and operating system.
A plug-in device or a hardware circuit can be used as keylogger tools. Either of the two can log to their internal memories all of a user’s keyboard activities without him being the wiser. This works like a tape recorder except that the recording is not based on voice but based on keystrokes. The hardware will act as a middle device that intercepts every keystroke that is struck by the user and store it to its built-in memory. The amount of keystrokes that can be stored in the keylogger will depend on the hardware’s memory. The output can then be sent or stored for accessing later on. Getting hold of the inputted keystrokes can be obtained through a program, an interface or even through an e-mail address.
Installing a hardware keylogger can be done inside the USB or PS/2 keyboard. Since the keylogger is inside the equipment, it will be difficult or impossible to detect it since its appearance cannot be distinguished from other wirings. Or, it can be designed so that it blends with the wiring or cabling system of the computer hardware. A step-by-step installation is available when you buy a keylogger from any manufacturer.
Is it possible to create one of your own? Absolutely. It will not be a piece of cake though. You’ll need some experience in electronics hardware. If you have it, your next step is to obtain the components. These could include, among others, a microcontroller, an EEPROM chip, a capacitor and a resistor. How To Use pen Drive Even If It is Locked in Colleges, Offices Etc.
Generally in colleges and Organizations USB drives are locked. It is sometimes irritating when we want to copy some important data from that computer but computer refuses to recognize it and says Found new hardware, USB Mass Storage Device, please install drivers for it.
I Google it and find the solution at Troublefixers. It defines two methods to tackle this error. But you should have administrator rights to use these methods. To have administrator rights check this post Cracking Administrator Account
1. By Disabling USB Ports from Device Manager
i) Go to Start > Run, in run prompt type “devmgmt.msc” and press enter.
ii) Go to Universal Serial bus Controller. See if there are any red colored cross? If yes, right click and enable those USB Ports.

Now try and use the pen drive.
2. Correct Registry Value for USB Mass Storage device
i) Go to Start > Run , type “regedit” and press enter.
ii) Navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\USBSTOR
iii) Double-click on the “Start” key to modify its value, change the value to 3 and press OK.

Speedup Operating System Installation And Maintainance
Save yourself time by making Windows installation files available on your hard drive.
We know you've had this problem: you install a new mouse, change a network setting, do almost anything that upsets the delicate balance in Windows and you're prompted to insert the Windows so-and-so CD. Where is it? Did you grab the right one?
If you have a lot of free disk space (about 700 MB), take a cue from the major PC makers and copy the files from your Windows CD to your hard drive. In fact, it's not a bad idea to copy the files before you install Windows so the resulting installation automatically knows where to find the files later—thus no prompting to insert a CD later.
PC manufacturers have typically placed the Windows 95, 98, 98SE, and Me files in a C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS folder, and Windows NT, 2000 or XP files into C:\i386.
You can emulate this pattern for Windows 9x-Me by creating these folders on your hard drive from a DOS prompt, then copying the files from the CD (assuming this is drive D:) as follows, from the A:\> DOS prompt:

Speedup Your HDD With Raid
If one fast drive is good, then five working together is surely better.
Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks (RAID) technology has been a significant lifesaver and performance boost for file servers. RAID can be set up in different configurations to provide systems with fault-tolerance or performance enhancements that are crucial to keeping data safe. It can be applied to personal desktop systems to provide significant disk drive performance enhancement.
RAID-0 (zero) is the most basic and highest performing RAID configuration. Portions of data normally stored on one disk drive are spread out across multiple drives, and those drives are accessed in parallel to deliver the data faster, because each drive does not have to access all of the data before it can be delivered. RAID-0 is unfortunately and by nature the least reliable in terms of data integrity, because a failure in any single drive renders all of the data useless.
In contrast to RAID-0, in a RAID-1 configuration all of the data is stored equally on two drives, in parallel. This slows the storage and reading performance but almost guarantees that the data remains intact even if one of the drives fails.
RAID-5 is somewhat a mix of RAID-0 and RAID-1, striping data across multiple drives but also adding error correction information across the drives, providing the advantages of parallel drives and a high degree of ability to recover data if one drive should fail.
Another hybrid implementation of RAID that is very affordable and intended for desktop system is RAID-0+1. The Promise Technology (http://www.promise.com) FastTrak TX4000 RAID controller card is specifically meant for desktop users with an appetite for high-performance disk systems. Performance enhancements of up to 30% are possible. Upgrading with top-performing disk drives and putting them into a RAID configuration just might knock the dust bunnies out of your keyboard.
The basic steps to install a RAID configuration on your PC are listed below. Be aware that the specific steps will be unique to the RAID controller (system board or add-in card type), your system BIOS, and RAID configuration software. After installation, the RAID configuration should appear to your operating system as a single-disk volume.
You need a RAID controller or RAID capabilities built into your system board. Promise Technologies is one of the most popular brands of add-in RAID controllers for IDE drives.
Have at least two identical disk drives on hand for RAID-0 and 1. Configuration of a simple RAID is a lot easier if the drives are identical: there will be no wasted space, and they should mirror each other and perform equally well. RAID 0+1 will require at least four disks.
If necessary, make a bootable DOS diskette with any necessary drivers or configuration program for your RAID controller. For BIOS-based RAID setups, familiarize yourself with the RAID setup screens and options in BIOS. It is likely you will have to connect the RAID drives to different IDE connections than the normal non-RAID IDE interfaces.
With the system powered down, install and connect the drives to the RAID controller interface connectors.
Start the system and either boot with the DOS diskette containing the RAID controller configuration program or get into the BIOS setup to access the RAID configuration screens.
Select the type of RAID you will be creating—typically 0, 1, or 0+1.
Partition the drives with the configuration program or BIOS screens. This process establishes how the RAID controller views and uses the drives.
When RAID controller configuration and disk partitioning is complete, you will either FORMAT the drives under DOS or start the installation of your operating system onto the new RAID system as the primary boot drive.
(RAID 1 and higher only) To test your configuration after installing your operating system, shut down and disconnect one of the RAID drives, then restart to verify that indeed the RAID system actually mirrors data to one of the drives.

Fix the Master Boot Record on FAT Partitions
Use FDISK to restore the ability to boot from your FAT-16 or FAT-32 hard drive.
FDISK is a DOS program that can actually help you out of some of those nasty "unable to locate operating system" and "no boot drive available" error conditions Windows 9x and DOS users encounter from time to time. The Master Boot Record can be corrupted by an improper shutdown, power glitch, or disk failure. Re-creating a new Master Boot Record at the first sector of the hard drive—which is what your system BIOS is looking for in order to turn over the startup operation to an operating system—is an easy fix.

To use FDISK's Master Boot Record restoration feature to get your main or additional drives back into bootable shape, follow these steps:

Boot with a DOS diskette, boot CD, or bootable USB FLASH drive or hard drive containing DOS and FDISK. A Windows 98 or Me startup diskette will do nicely.

At the command prompt type in either:
FDISK /MBR
orFDISK /CMBR
x -
Remove the disk or device you booted to DOS with and then restart the system to verify that you can boot from the hard drive.
FDISK /MBR re-creates the Master Boot Record, the first sector of the hard disk. This can be helpful to repair a damaged or corrupted bootable drive.
FDISK /CMBR x re-creates the boot sector of the first (x = 1), second (x = 2), third (x = 3), or fourth (x = 4) hard disk(s).

Determining if a system board is hackable—that is, whether it supports overclocking of the CPU—is not obvious. Here are some clues to the hackability of a specific board.

Most boards for do-it-yourself system builders, also known as "white box" or generic products, support customizable CPU clock values.

Create A Bootable XP SP integrated CD -
Slipstreaming a Service Pack, is the process to integrate the Service Pack into the installation so that with every new installation the Operating System and Service Pack are installed at the same time.
Slipstreaming is usually done on network shares on corporate systems. But with the advent of CD burners, it does actually make some sense for the home user or small business user to do the same.
Microsoft added the ability to Slipstream a Service Pack to Windows 2000 and Windows XP. It not only has the advantage that when you (re)install your OS, you don't have to apply the Service Pack later, also if you update any Windows component later, you'll be sure that you get the correct installation files if Windows needs any.
Slipstream Windows XP Service Pack 1a:

Download the (full) "Network Install" of the Service Pack (English version [125 MB]), and save it to a directory (folder) on your hard drive (in my case D:\XP-SP1). Other languages can be downloaded from the Windows XP Web site.
Microsoft recently released Windows XP SP1a. The only difference is that this Service Pack does no longer include Microsoft's dated Java version. If you have already installed Windows XP SP1, there is no reason to install SP1a, but the "older" SP1 (with MS Java) is no longer available for download.
Next copy your Windows XP CD to your hard drive. Just create a folder (I used \XP-CD), and copy all the contents of your Windows XP CD in that folder.
Now create a folder to hold the Service Pack 1a (SP1a) files you are about to extract. I named it \XP-SP1. Next, open a Command Prompt (Start > Run > cmd), and go to the folder where you downloaded SP1a (cd \foldername). Type the command: servicepack filename -x. A small window will appear, and you need to point it to the folder where you want to extract the SP1 files. Click Ok to start extracting the SP1a files.
Once the SP1a files are extracted, change to the update folder of the SP1a files (cd update), and type the following command: update /s:path to WinXP CD files. In my example the command is update /s:D:\XP-CD).
Windows XP Update will do its thing:
When ready, you should get a confirmation. Windows XP Service Pack 1a has now been Slipstreamed into your original Windows XP files.
It is also possible to add the Windows XP Rollup 1 Update. For instructions, please read Adding Windows XP Rollup 1 Hotfix.
Creating a Bootable CD
For this part I used ISO Buster

and Nero Burning.
Start to extract the boot loader from the original Windows XP CD. Using ISO Buster, select the "folder" Bootable CD, and right-click Microsoft Corporation.img. From the menu choose Extract Microsoft Corporation.img, and extract it to the folder on your hard drive where you have your Windows XP files (D:\XP-CD in my case).
Next, start Nero Burning ROM, and choose CD-ROM (Boot) in the New Compilation window. On the Boot tab, select Image file under Source of boot image data, and browse to the location of the Microsoft Corporation.img file. Also enable Expert Settings, choosing No Emulation, and changing the Number of loaded sectors to 4 (otherwise it won't boot!)
If you have an older version of Nero you won't have the option Do Not Add ";1" ISO file version extention under Relax ISO Restrictions. You won't be able to boot your new CD, so update Nero!
You can configure the Label tab to your liking, I would however recommend that you keep the Volume Label the same as on your original Windows XP CD.
Next press New, and drag & drop the files and folders from your Windows XP hard drive location into Nero.
Next, burn your new CD.
You now have a Bootable, Slipstreamed Windows XP Service Pack 1a CD!
